Rex White’s 1962 Impala and my car are one in the same…

I just had a wonderful chat on the phone with NASCAR legend, Rex White. What a nice guy!

There had been some debate about which of Rex’s cars were used to build my car and he confirmed that my Impala was actually built from his 1962 car, the first car to ever win a superspeedway race with a 409, Pretty Cool!! — The 409 was used in the car until late 65 apparently when it became unreliable and was replaced by the 427 (396 overbore) — A guy named Jim Bray out of Canada bought Rex’s 1962 Impala which was then sold to Tom Hunter who used it to build the old girl in 1965. I’m going to give Jim a call tomorrow to get the rest of the story.

HSCRS Charity event Infineon Raceway Sears Point – Oct 30, 2011

Oct 30, 2011 HSCRS (Historic Stock Car Racing Series) charity event where we raised over $33k for Cerebral Palsy! This is the morning practice with my Mom in the right seat enjoying every minute of it (legs crossed just enjoying the ride!). Amazing what 40 years of stock car development will do including lots of point bys but hell of a lot of fun running with the newer cars!

2011 Portland Historics

Raced the old girl this weekend in the Portland Historics — Day one (Friday) we lost the mechanical fuel pump AGAIN and again it shot oil straight onto the headers; had to be towed back in. We converted over to an electric fuel pump and the car ran like a champ. Has a bit of a miss at high RPM we need to figure out though. Then on Sunday afternoon during the Chevrolet 100 year anniversary feature race I lost third gear! Doh! This is the video of me running on Sunday morning session/practice. The car really starts going around 6:00 into the video.

More updates later this week. Car got covered in Hemmings Muscle car magazine and a few others! So cool.

Palo Alto Concours d’Elegance – 1st place!

Had a great time at this years Palo Alto Concours d’Elegance. So many cool cars! We ended up taking 1st in class (historic race cars), very very neat! So much fun.

In other news, Portland Historics on July 7, 8, 9th coming up. Wish me luck!

In other news; I’ll be playing hooky from work and properly testing the car (and its new engine!) for the first time with the Historic Stock Car Racing Series on Tuesday Feb 22nd at Sears Point Infineon. I’ll have an HD incar camera and maybe one hanging off the fender too. Stay tuned for that. shaun

Hi guys,

Its been a long time since I posted I know sorry — The car is still down unfortunately; its long story but the motor has to be (completely) replaced. Working on getting funds together for that.

In other news for those of you who missed it below is the interview of me during this years 2010 Monterey Motorsports Reunion — check it out, also a new photo of the car running on Sunday at Monterey I found on the web. Quick update — The car is in the shop getting engine work done to it. It looks like the issue was a bit more serious then we thought. Hoping to have it fixed soon so I can do a proper test of the car before the rainy season starts.

Post Monterey – Whats next?

Still recovering… The car is back in the shop getting a new cam and other minor bugs worked out (oil leaks etc.) — I’m hoping to test her thoroughly before the end of summer; either at Buttonwillow or Thunderhill raceway. I will let you know (and I will have some real in-car video to share, darn go-pro failure err)

Monterey Day 3 – SpeedTV & The Checkered Flag!

Well today was an amazing day. SpeedTV interviewed me for a featured spot about the car during their coverage of the event (should air in a week or two, I will update the site as soon as I have more details). I was also interviewed by about 6 different magazines over the past 3 days! The most important thing was the car finished the race today!

Interest in the car and this journey has been truly overwhelming. Thank you to everyone who supported us during the restoration.
